Let me start by saying I’m no expert. I’m just here to share my journey of starting an Instagram account. Feel free to check out my feed and drop me a message anytime!
I wanted to chat a bit about starting a Bookstagram. When I first dove into it, I saw all these stunning and elaborate photos and felt a bit intimidated. Below is my very first post. Apart from the flowers I picked up from the dollar store, everything else was already mine.
You really don’t need much to get started. In fact, you only need three things:
1. An Instagram account: Sign up and come up with a username. It can be anything, but I’d suggest something short and memorable. Mine’s a bit long, @allthebooksandchocolate, but it’s easy to remember. While you don’t have to, something book-related can add a nice touch.
2. A camera: When I began, I used a Nikon DSLR, not because it took better pictures, but because I wanted to practice with it. Now, I use my iPhone—the newest one takes better pics than my Nikon! So, if you only have a phone, it’ll work just fine.
3. Books: This one’s obvious, but what if you don’t own a lot? No worries! I get a lot of mine from the library. About a quarter of the books I feature are borrowed. Another great option is photographing eBooks. It’s inexpensive and looks great. @PaperFury has a fantastic tutorial on how to do this, which I’ve used several times!
I hope these tips help those of you who are just starting out or even those who’ve been at it for a while. And please come check out my account!
