I read The Winner’s Trilogy years ago and loved it, so when I say The Midnight Lie was not only by Marie Rutkoski, but also set in the world of The Winner’s Trilogy I knew I had to read it. I had high expectations, and while they were not exceeded they were certainly met.
Let me first say that the plot doesn’t really start until the end. The first of 75-80% of the book is really more character development, world-building and romance. All of which is amazing, so don’t let that deter you. Though I must admit that I was sort of wondering about the plot. As I mentioned, The Midnight Lie is set in the same world as The Winner’s Trilogy, but not in the same place, so world building is important.
The romance between Nirrim and Sid is by far the best part of the book. Seeing them interact and dance around each other was so fun. I also liked that their relationship made Nirrim stronger.
I enjoyed The Midnight Lie and I am eagerly awaiting book two
