Ever since a car accident killed her father and put Lisa and her mother into the hospital, Lisa can’t think straight. She’s plagued by nightmares and hallucinations that force her to relive the accident over and over again in vivid detail. When Lisa finds out that a neighbor is looking for a babysitter for her young son, she takes the job immediately, eager to keep busy and shake these disturbing images from her head.
But what promised to be an easy gig turns terrifying when Lisa begins to question exactly who — or what — she is babysitting. (from Goodreads)
What a cheese fest!
I attribute R.L. Stine with sparking my love of reading, but this book was a bit of a disappointment. In some ways, I hope that his writing got worse, but I fear I found these types of books very entertaining at age 11.
The storyline is patently ridiculous, and it really makes no sense. I found the main character, Lisa, to be really annoying. There were plot devices that were brought up and they seemed to lead nowhere. All that being said, I couldn’t put this book down. So Mr. Stine does still know how to construct a story that I want to read. The plot moves along at a decent pace, and though probably not intentional, I did find a lot of elements very humorous. When I imagined the monsters in this book, in my mind they were those terrible badly done costumes and makeup from early in the horror genre.
If you like super cheesy B-horror films, this may be something you’d like, if not and your older than 13, I wouldn’t bother.
