Starts off slow, but turns into a wonderful adventure story.

Review

This started out a little slow for me.  I get it there was a lot of information to dump on us, I just felt like maybe it could have been handled a little differently. That being said once the action started it was a great book.  It was original and the story had a purpose which I really enjoyed.

I really liked the characters, each of them sort of annoyed me at one point or another in the story, but overall I really enjoyed them.  I think what I enjoyed most is seeing their growth and development throughout the book.

The story itself was fairly predictable, but what I did like was the unpredictability of the characters actions, especially towards the end of the book.   That really helped keep the story more interesting.  I did think that maybe there was one too many obstacles in the way for  Zélie and her crew, not to the point that it was unbelievable, but more of a how much more do they have to put up with feeling.

There is some romance in this book, but I wouldn’t say it was at the forefront, at least not for most of the book.  I was pretty indifferent to the romance in the book.  It wasn’t that I didn’t like the romances, it was more that I cared about the other stuff going on more.

Bottom Line

This book is a great fantasy adventure story.  I will definitely be reading the second book.

Overall: 4
