Synopsis

Garrett Andersen knows that playing professional hockey requires absolute dedication to the rules. There’s just one rule he’s finding difficult to follow: stay away from his captain’s younger sister.

As a professional dancer, Jennie Beckett knows what it takes to excel. She prides herself on being every bit as confident and bold as her brother, sassy as hell, and the only person in charge of her pleasure. No wonder Garrett can’t stay away from her—even if he forgets how to form sentences whenever she’s around.

Jennie would rather avoid her brother’s teammate, especially after several embarrassing run-ins, but suddenly they’re neighbors. And as the connection between them grows, Garrett and Jennie decide to have some fun, no strings attached. Between their busy schedules and her brother’s disapproval, they know keeping things casual and low-key is the smartest play.

But what if their feelings get in the way? After all, they’re only supposed to be playing with each other…

Review

Play with Me by Becka Mack is a heartwarming contemporary romance that explores themes of love, self-worth, and personal growth. With engaging characters and a touching storyline, this book offers readers a captivating journey of discovery and redemption.

At the center of the story are Jennie and Garrett. Jennies is the younger sister of Garrett’s teammate and best friend, and also the girl he has harbored a secret crush on. Garrett’s kindness and patience are evident in every interaction, as he goes out of his way to make Jenny feel comfortable and valued. Unlike the typical alpha male trope often found in romance novels, Garrett’s strength lies in his quiet determination to support Jenny through her struggles, rather than dominate or control her.

One of the most compelling aspects of Play with Me is Jennie’s journey of self-discovery. As the story unfolds, readers witness her gradual transformation from a woman plagued by self-doubt and fear to someone who embraces her worth and potential. Garrett plays a pivotal role in this process, serving as a beacon of light in Jennie’s darkest moments and helping her see the strength and resilience within herself. Garrett has certainly been added to the list of my book boyfriends.

What sets Play with Me apart from other romance novels is its emphasis on character development and emotional depth. While the romantic tension between Jennie and Garrett is palpable, it is their individual struggles and personal growth that truly resonate with readers. As Jennie learns to let go of her past and embrace the possibilities of the present, readers are reminded of the importance of self-love and acceptance. Garrett’s unwavering support serves as a reminder that true love is patient, kind, and accepting of imperfections.

Alex Kydd is absolutely perfect as Garrett! He did an amazing job portraying this absolutely adorable, kind hockey player, who had a surprisingly dirty mouth. Kasha Kensington was fantastic as Jennie, she conveyed both Jennie’s ferocity and vulnerability.

Play with Me is a beautifully written romance that will capture the hearts of readers from beginning to end. With its well-developed characters, engaging storyline, and heartfelt message, this book is a must-read for anyone who enjoys stories of love, redemption, and self-discovery. Becka Mack has crafted a truly memorable novel that will stay with readers long after the final page is turned.
