Synopsis

Thorne Manor has always been haunted…and it has always haunted Bronwyn Dale. As a young girl, Bronwyn could pass through a time slip in her great-aunt’s house, where she visited William Thorne, a boy her own age, born two centuries earlier. After a family tragedy, the house was shuttered and Bronwyn was convinced that William existed only in her imagination.

Now, twenty years later Bronwyn inherits Thorne Manor. And when she returns, William is waiting.

William Thorne is no longer the boy she remembers. He’s a difficult and tempestuous man, his own life marred by tragedy and a scandal that had him retreating to self-imposed exile in his beloved moors. He’s also none too pleased with Bronwyn for abandoning him all those years ago.

As their friendship rekindles and sparks into something more, Bronwyn must also deal with ghosts in the present version of the house. Soon she realizes they are linked to William and the secret scandal that drove him back to Thorne Manor. To build a future, Bronwyn must confront the past.

Review

A Stitch in Time was not what I expected.  It was part time-travel romance, part ghost story, and part murder mystery.  All of which I happen to love.

One of the things I liked most about this book was that it didn’t waste time on introducing the whole time travel thing.  When the book starts, it’s been about 20 years since Bronwyn’s been to Thorne Manor and 20 years since she traveled back in time to William.  So we don’t have to waste time figuring out what happened or being confounded by what was going on.  Something that I greatly appreciate as a reader.  And though there is history that we don’t see between William in Bronwyn, that is explained as the story progresses.

This book combines romance with some gothic horror, interweaving ghosts and past murders into the story in a way that doesn’t seem forced.  The ending was a bit on the cliche side, but it is a romance; after all, I shouldn’t really expect any different.

I enjoyed this time travel romance and will certainly be reading the other books in this series.
