After serving a year of her hard labor sentence, Celaena Sardothien id offered the chance at freedom, as long as she agrees to be the Champion of the Crown Prince in a competition in a competition to find a new royal assassin.
She must beat out thieves, assassins, and warriors from across the empire. With the help of Captain Westfall, she trains to beat out her competition.
When one of the contestants turns up dead … quickly followed by another. Celaena must figure out who the killer is before she’s next.
It took a while to get into this, and when I did it was just sort of meh.
This was a re-read for me and it took me a while to get into. I thought Celaena was super annoying. She was immature and for someone who was a trained assassin, she really wasn’t very smart. Chaol was giving her great advice to let her be underestimated and she was too egotistical to take it.
I still loved Dorian, but this time I noticed more of his weaknesses. I liked the premise of the story but personally, the fantasy elements were what annoyed me the most. I really didn’t understand the point of it. Maybe in the next book, it will make sense (I really don’t remember), but it was sort of useless in this books.
Annoying characters and unnecessary plot elements did not help this book at all.
Overall: 3
Lots of people have been trying to convince me to read Throne of Glass, kinda glad to see another view!
I mean it’s okay, but I certainly don’t think it’s a must read!
