I love a good Mystery, and being that it is October it does seem a little fitting to talk about some of my favorite detective novels There is something about gathering clues and solving a puzzle that just makes me happy. My favorite tv show is Veronica Mars, so that tells you a lot about what I’m into basically smart sassy detectives solving cases. Below are some of my favorite mystery books!
Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson
Well, of course, I was going to put this book on the list! I mean Stevie is very smart, less sassy, but still a total badass. I loved this book so much, and it has the added perk of taking place in a boarding school so… You can read my full review here.
The Lady Sherlock Series by Sherry Thomas
Sherry Thomas is one of my favorite authors. I have yet to read a book of hers I didn’t love. The Lady Sherlock series is one of my favorites and while I certainly have my favorites from this series I really enjoyed all of them. Charlotte Holmes does not give any F’s about anything and I love that about her. The mysteries are generally unsolvable on your own, but that’s okay. You can read my review of the latest book in the series here.
Mr. Kiss and Tell by Rob Thomas and Jennifer Graham
As I mentioned Veronica Mars is my favorite show so of course, I had to include one os the Veronica Mars books. This is the second of the two and while you should probably read the first one before jumping into this one, I did enjoy this one a little more. The first one though does have the honor of being narrated by Veronica Mars, Kristen Bell, herself so…
The Sebastian St. Cyr series by C.S. Harris
There are 15 books and counting in this series, and counting so be advised before you start. This is a historical mystery and Sebastian St. Cyr has the honor of being the only male detective I have included on my list. I really enjoyed these books, and the side characters especially are some of my favorites.
The Parasol Protectorate Series by Gail Carriger
If you like steampunk and/or whimsy than this is for you. This book is sort of a hodgepodge of a lot of different genres, there is steampunk as I mentioned, and paranormal because there are vampires and werewolves, and of course mystery. This is a series that like its main character, Alexia, does not take itself too seriously.
Do you enjoy detective novels, if so what are some of your favorites?
