A Case for Jamie by Brittany Cavallaro
synopsis

It’s been a year since the shocking death of August Moriarty, and Jamie and Charlotte haven’t spoken.

Jamie is going through the motions at Sherringford, trying to finish his senior year without incident, with a nice girlfriend he can’t seem to fall for.

Charlotte is on the run, from Lucien Moriarty and from her own mistakes. No one has seen her since that fateful night on the lawn in Sussex—and Charlotte wants it that way. She knows she isn’t safe to be around. She knows her Watson can’t forgive her.

Holmes and Watson may not be looking to reconcile, but when strange things start happening, it’s clear that someone wants the team back together. Someone who has been quietly observing them both. Making plans. Biding their time.

Someone who wants to see one of them suffer and the other one dead. (Goodreads)

The same great characters with a great story

review

While I’ve never read any of the original Sherlock Holmes books, I have read quite a few of the reimagined versions, mostly the ones where Sherlock becomes Charlotte.  This is the third book in the series and I think it may actually be my favorite. In this book, Charlotte is humbled a little and thus much more likable. Jamie is the same likable guy, and somehow the events of book two didn’t change him nearly as much as I would have expected.

The story starts out a little convoluted but it eventually the plot takes shape and it’s much clearer what’s going on.  There are of course twists perhaps at times for the sake of twists, but this a Holmes novel, after all, I would expect nothing less.  The mystery, if you can even call it that is interesting enough, but the real plot is the interaction between the characters.

I loved that Leander was much more present in this book as he is one of my favorite side characters in the series, and it was also interesting learning about more about his relationship with James.  I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read the last book in the series.

Overall Rating: 4
