Review
I absolutely love the way Promises and Pomegranates started out, and it was a great story. I just wish the ending had been as original as the rest of the book.
This is a dark mafia romance with the male lead kidnapping and forcing the female lead into marriage. What I did like was that these two had a past. They clearly had feelings for one another before all this, though both of them were fighting it. I would have liked maybe a little more insight into the relationship between Kal and Elena., especially given Kal’s past with Elena’s family. There seemed to be a lot of loose ends in this book, not specifically with Kal and Elena, but characters introduced and the plotlines started. I assume that those will get tied up in future books, and maybe I missed them because I haven’t read other books yet.
As I mentioned, while the start of this book was terrific, in fact, most of the book was simply amazing. The ending however fell a little flat for me. What started out as something different turned into the same typical romance. I didn’t hate the ending, and I wouldn’t even say that this book was predictable, but it did leave me feeling disappointed. I was just hoping this wonderfully original story wouldn’t fall into the typical tropes like it did at the end. But that’s honestly the only thing I didn’t absolutely love about this book, and it’s really probably a personal taste thing more than anything. I loved the characters of Kal and Elena, especially how cold and calculating Kal was. The writing was also excellent. I will certainly read more by this author!
