This is the last trope battle of the month for the #RomanceReadsApril Instagram challenge. I have to say I think this one may be the hardest yet, Second Chance Romance vs. Soul Mates. Not only is this hard because a lot of times I feel like Second Chance Romance can also be soul mates, so that does complicate things.
Second Chance Romance:
Definition:
A trope in fiction where a couple learns to love again after their first encounter.
Why It’s Great:
What I like about Second Chance Romance is that when the book starts out there is already a history between the characters, so not only are you reading about them present seeing them fall in love again, but also learning about their past. Their past doesn’t always involve romance, though usually one or bother parties were interested in each other. The trope can also include other tropes such as enemies to lovers.

Soul Mates
Definition:
Soul Mates can mean quite a few things, it can be a One True Pair (OTP) it or could be fated mates – think paranormal romance.
My Opinion:
Because this trope has some different meanings is a little hard to narrow down. But at the end of the day you can tell that the couple belongs together. There is something incredibly romantic about a couple that is truly meant to be.
Recommendations:
This is probably the most subjective of the tropes I’ve discussed. My OTP is not necessarily yours. I’ve tried to include both my own OTPs and a couple of fated mates books.
I agree this is a tough one! Personally, second chance romances really touch me because of the backstory!
