Review
Maggie Stiefvater is one of those writers you either love or hate. Her writing is very lyrical and description heavy. I happen to love her, but I know that she isn’t for everyone. Call Down the Hawk is a spinoff of the Raven Cycle. It centers on the Lynch brothers, not just Ronan, but Declan and Matthew too.
Ronan was one of my favorite characters from the Raven Cycle. I enjoyed learning more about Declan, as he was a bit of a mystery in the Raven Cycle. This book focuses more on the dreamer aspects of Ronan’s life. If you are hoping for a lot of Ronan Adam scenes, you’re going to be disappointed. Not that there aren’t any, but it isn’t the focus of the book.
There are a lot of new characters in this book, but also mentions of old favorites. It does a great job of telling a new story, but also keeping the characters I loved from the first series. The story is really interesting and again starts to shed more light on Ronan’s dream powers and the Lynch brothers. If you enjoyed the Raven Cycle I would highly recommend this. I do think you could read this one without having read the Raven Cycle as well.
