On the way home from a vacation Finn and Layla stop at a service station to use the restroom. When he returns to the car Layla is gone. At least that’s the story Finn told the police.
It is ten years later and Finn is engaged, to Ellen, Layla’s sister of all people. With the wedding just months away, Finn begins to get emails. Someone knows what really happened to Layla.
B. A. Paris is one of my favorite suspense/thriller authors, and this book did not disappoint.
Even though I figured out the twist early on, this book still kept me guessing. It was suspenseful and satisfying. The plot was well paced, there weren’t slow parts like there are with so many other thrillers out there.
My one complaint what the characters, I hated all of them. I think for me this is what really kept this from being a five-star read. I wasn’t really rooting for anyone in the story. Finn was an ass, and Ellen seemed off. Obviously, I felt horrible for Layla, but even she seemed flighty.
As I said, I did figure out the twist, but I kept second guessing myself. That was due to the originality of the story. I wasn’t expecting that to be the ultimate resolution, even though all the clues seemed to fit.
This wasn’t as good as Behind Closed Doors, but this is a solid story. If you like a good thriller, you will like this one.
Overall: 4
